Newcastle Central Biobank Facililty

About us

The Newcastle Central Biobank Facility offers a wide range of services to support researchers with their work. We store a collection of human tissues under the Human Tissue Act and offer a range of temperature-controlled storage facilities for human samples. Alongside the storage facility, we offer sample handling and processing services, in a modern, well-equipped laboratory.

All our services are for the use of researchers both within Newcastle University and from other universities, hospitals and commercial companies. Our services are flexible and tailored to individual project requirements.

Newcastle Research Tissue Biobank

Within the Newcastle Central Biobank, we also have a research tissue bank. The Newcastle Research Tissue Biobank (NRTB) is an essential facility for life sciences and medical researchers working at the University. The NRTB holds a number of sample collections and is able to access excess diagnostic samples, enabling researchers to more easily use human tissue samples relevant to their project, without the need for their own ethics approval.

Visit the Newcastle Research Tissue Biobank page for further information and application process.

Tissue Collections

There are other tissue collections within Newcastle University.
