North of the Tyne, Under the Stars took place at sites across Newcastle city centre between 10-13 March, bringing thousands of visitors to our campus.

Two installations were in place on campus...

Hyem was an immersive 70-metre long floor projection and multi channel sound installation, which ran between the Arches and the Percy Building. Created by NOVAK in collaboration with designers Ash Willerton, Erin McGrath, Hazel Dunn, Jimmy Turrell, and composer and sound artist, Ed Carter, it featured vocals and tenor saxophone from Faye MacCalman, viola from Chrissie Slater and Northumbrian smallpipes from Ednie Wilson.

Around the corner, on a Claremont Quad lit with flickering flames, visitors came across The Story-Weaver, an 'interstellar chemist' appearing by portal to share what she had learned from the stories of our region. The work of Simon Sharkey, Katy Fuller, NOVAK, Roma Yagnik, Robin Peoples and Lightfires, with Sally Lofthouse, the installation had toured venues in the North East before providing the finale to the city centre event.
