Schools Science Programme

Aimed at 6th form students, this programme uses the facilities of the Centre and the concepts and techniques we use in our research, to bring to life aspects in their curriculum and stimulate students to consider a career in science.

MRI and MRS create a wealth of information about the body and how it functions. We merge together many disciplines and aspects of science such as:

  • magnetism
  • quantum mechanical physics
  • engineering
  • radio frequency technology and electronics
  • computing and imaging analysis
  • biology
  • physiology
  • psychology

For more details of this programme and how you can be involved, please email us.

Students from Sacred Heart High School, Newcastle upon Tyne and Haydon Bridge High School, Hexham have visited the Centre. Professor Roy Taylor and Professor Andrew Blamire have also made visits to Woodlea Primary School, Houghton le Spring and Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham to explain to pupils the function of the MRI scanner and to demonstrate the use of some scanner specific equipment.
