Know your immigration responsibilities

As an international student, you may need to apply for a visa or entry clearance to study in the UK.

There may be steps you need to take before and after arriving at Newcastle. Please make sure you're aware of these and are fully prepared.

  • You must have a valid immigration permission for the duration of your programme.
  • If you need to apply for a student visa, please see our guidance on how to apply.

Applying for Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS):

  • Some programmes require clearance under the ATAS before you can study in the UK.
  • Your offer letter will state whether you need ATAS clearance for your programme.

Receive your Confirmation of Acceptance Studies (CAS):

  • Once your offer becomes unconditional, we may send you a CAS to confirm that the University will sponsor a student visa application.
  • You will only be offered a CAS if you do not have any other UK immigration permission allowing you to study for the full duration of your programme.
