About NIHR Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative

The NIHR Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative (NIHR Newcastle MIC) works with researchers from academia, healthcare and industry who are developing new diagnostic tests. Their experts generate high quality evidence that highlights the potential benefit of the new test, increasing the likelihood of its use in the NHS.

Our focus is on in-vitro diagnostic tests that tackle unmet clinical needs in:

  • ageing and long-term chronic conditions
  • infection
  • personalised and stratified medicine.

The NIHR Newcastle MIC can offer Newcastle University researchers carrying out translational research:

  • advice and expertise in robust qualitative, statistical and health economic methods
  • help with building a multi-disciplinary team that will work collaboratively with you to ensure you generate the evidence you need
  • access to the Diagnostics North East network who can help diagnostic developers with every stage of their research from test idea to implementation and adoption.

Stage

Researchers should approach the NIHR Newcastle MIC as soon as possible when they have an early translational idea and are looking for support.

If you plan to submit a grant application, the NIHR Newcastle MIC can support you and be a part of that application either as a co-applicant, collaborator or sub-contractor.

We support stages D3 and T1-T2 along the Translational Research Pathway. We also provide support with the development of intervention, pilot clinical evaluation and experimental medicine, as well as clinical evaluation and regulatory approval.
