About Voice

VOICE is a community of public, patients and carers who are passionate about working with researchers. Embedded in the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing at Newcastle University, it supports public and patient involvement and engagement (PPIE) in research. It also helps researchers navigate to training and support.

High-quality public and patient involvement is crucial throughout the research cycle to keep the focus on real needs and priorities.

Through VOICE, researchers can:

  • access a large, diverse community, quickly and easily
  • gain insights from the general public, as well as patients & carers
  • strengthen funding applications with digital involvement and engagement approaches
  • keep track of their involvement activity.

Stage

Researchers can work with VOICE at any stage of their project from Disease Orientated Research through to Adoption and Diffusion (D2-T3). It’s a core value of VOICE as an organisation that high quality, meaningful PPIE should be embedded throughout the research pathway. However, it is highly beneficial for VOICE members to be involved in projects from the beginning. By being part of the pre-funding conceptual stage, they have the chance to shape the direction of the research.
