Lifestyle

Marris House has 192 self-catered washbasin rooms in flats. Each flat is shared by six students, and has two shower rooms and toilets. There's an attractive open-plan living area where you can relax with your flatmates after a hard day of study. We give you a Crockery Pack (PDF: 33KB) to help get you started.

It's just a seven to 10 minute walk from Marris House to Castle Leazes, so you can choose to buy their catered package during term time - save time shopping, cooking and washing up! Just complete the Catered Package Opt-in.

Building work will be ongoing throughout the academic year on a site adjacent to Marris House which may cause some disturbance to residents.

Access and Safety

This accommodation is spread over two to four floors with no lift and an entry phone system is in operation.  We take the safety of our students very seriously and Estates Security Officers patrol our accommodation to ensure your peace of mind.

A Residences Manager is responsible for Residential Services as well as welfare and discipline and a Customer Services Manager is responsible for Reception Services.

Marris House is next to the University Sports Centre and close to local convenience shops, the University’s Medical and Dental School, and EAT@THEFORUM catering outlet. The main campus and city centre with excellent shops and vibrant nightlife are just a 12-minute walk away.

Your contract

Marris House is University-Managed accommodation.

The contract is a fixed term period of 39 weeks (24 September 2017 to 24 June 2018) and covers the duration of the academic year. Rents are charged per day, so if your contract differs to the standard dates above (ie earlier arrival), you will incur additional accommodation charges at the relevant daily rate.

All utility bills are included, WiFi is free and we also provide Personal Possessions Insurance

Accessible Rooms

Our accommodation is accessible to all and we support students who have particular needs or disabilities

We have two flats specifically adapted for students with impaired hearing.  

There is an induction loop in the communal lounge linked to the TV. One of the study-bedroom's in each flat is fitted with vibrating pillow and strobe warning light. This will notify you if the fire alarm stystem is activated within your flat or block.
