Annual Meeting of Convocation

Saturday 13 July 2024, 13:00 – 14:30 BST (lunch served from 12:00) Ethel Williams Lecture Theatre, Dame Margaret Barbour Building, Newcastle University online and in-person

Join us for our Annual Meeting of Convocation, wherever you are in the world

Convocation is the formal name for our 270,000-strong alumni network. The Meeting of Convocation occurs once a year and gives you an opportunity to join discussions with our leadership team about the latest developments at the University and future plans, as well as reconnect with your fellow alumni!

All alumni are welcome and encouraged to attend. This year’s meeting is being held both in-person in the Dame Margaret Barbour Building on campus, and virtually via Zoom for those unable to travel to Newcastle on the day.

If you’re joining us in person, you can enjoy a complimentary lunch from 12:00 and an opportunity to network with other attendees. The Meeting will start promptly for all attendees at 13:00. Please inform us of any dietary requirements that you have when registering.

The Meeting will be followed by an exciting panel debate exploring what it means to be both extraordinary and ethical in the world of sports, which is free to attend. All Convocation attendees are encouraged to stay on campus and join the conversation.

Speakers include:

  • Sir Brendan Foster CBE, Honorary Graduate of Newcastle University
  • Mike Oakes (BA Economics and Accounting 1999) - Director of Communications at The Enhanced Games/Head of Communications at Apeiron Investment Group
  • Dr Adrian Holliday, Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, Newcastle University
  • Katy Storie, Director of Sport, Newcastle University

A jam-packed weekend of activities

The panel discussion isn’t the only event taking place for our alumni community over the weekend. We have a full programme of events for you to reconnect with your alumni community, revisit your city and refresh your knowledge and skills.

If you are joining us for the weekend, our alumni community can benefit from exclusive hotel discounts

As a graduate you can continue to play a vital role in the future of your university
