North East Solidarity and Teaching (NEST)

North East Solidarity and Teaching (NEST) is a student-led Newcastle University Students’ Union Go Volunteer project.

What is NEST?

North East Solidarity and Teaching (NEST) is a student-led Newcastle University Students’ Union Go Volunteer project. It aims to educate, empower and integrate the forced migration community in the North East of England.

We are an enormous multicultural family delivering 26 sessions per week. We support approximately 700 refugees and asylum seekers (learners) each year with the help of over 600 student volunteers. We teach English, play sports, promote creativity, go on trips in the North East and so much more.

It is in our diversity that we have found the strength to continue growing despite challenges. As a result, we have developed into a multi-award winning and internationally recognised organisation. We have become an essential part of the North East’s response to the global refugee crisis.
