Inclusive Arrangements
For students with a disability, specific learning difficulty, mental health condition or injury.
Exam arrangements
If you have a long term disability or a specific learning difficulty that may affect your exams, you should contact Student Wellbeing. The deadline for submitting evidence for the Semester One exam period of the 2025-26 academic year is Friday 7 November 2025.
You may be eligible for alternative exam arrangements, for example:
- extra time
- use of a computer
- rest breaks
- a support worker such as a scribe and/or reader
If you have a temporary injury or short term medical condition, please go to 'Temporary Arrangements' below.
Temporary arrangements
If you have a temporary injury or short term medical condition you can apply for exam adjustments by completing a Temporary Exam Arrangements Form (TEAF).
We require the form a minimum of 3 working days before your first exam.
You must read the guidance before completing the form:
- TEAF Guidance (PDF: 69 KB)
- Temporary Exam Arrangements Form (TEAF)
Personal circumstances
Illness and other unforeseen circumstances
If you are unable to attend an exam due to unforeseen and unavoidable personal extenuating circumstances, including illness, you should advise your academic unit. Please complete the Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PEC) Form so that appropriate adjustments can be considered.
Religious observance
If you are unable to take an in-person or take-home exam during any of the University’s main examination periods due to a religious observance (e.g. holy days or religious festivals), then please let us know by completing this form before the specified deadlines:
Religious Observance Form 2025/26
You will need to submit a new form for each academic year.
Deadlines:
Friday 24 October 2025 (for exams during the Semester One exam period: 6-20 January 2026)
Friday 13 February 2026 (for exams during the Semester Two exam period: 11-29 May 2026)
Thursday 2 July 2026 (for exams during the August exam period: 3-14 August 2026)
The University will make every effort to avoid scheduling exams on the dates/times specified on your form. However, due to the challenges and complexities of scheduling a large number of exams for several thousand students over a limited number of days, it may not be possible to avoid scheduling exams as requested.
Eligibility
Please use the Religious Observance Form for any exam scheduling requests relating to in-person or take-home exams that are scheduled during the main exam periods by the Exams Team.
For any exams that take place outside of the main exam periods, or for any other forms of assessment that may be impacted by a religious observance, please contact your School as early as possible to discuss your situation.
MBBS and Dentistry students – as the exam dates for these programmes are fixed, it is unfortunately not possible for any scheduling requests to be considered.
Where requests cannot be met
The Exams Office will first check with your School whether the exam can be taken at an alternative time within the same exam period.
If an alternative timing is not feasible, you will be notified as soon as possible and advised to submit a Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PEC) Form to request either a deferral to the August exam period, or for the consideration of an extraordinary/alternative assessment during teaching time (if appropriate).
Ramadan
The University recognises the importance of Ramadan and is aware that some students may have exams scheduled during this time.
Observing Ramadan will not normally be considered as an acceptable reason to defer your exams. However, should the impact of fasting have a significant effect on your health, this can be considered through the PEC procedure.
The NHS offers advice and guidance on staying healthy during Ramadan, Ramadan Health Guide (PDF: 1.3 MB).
