Understanding the types of classes and how you'll be supported
Understanding the types of classes and how you'll be supportedStudying at University may be very different from studying you have previously done.
Studying at university means you’re expected to learn with far greater independence than you have before. This is the key difference between school, college and Higher Education, and adjusting to this expectation can be challenging. There’s a lot more freedom, and with greater freedom comes greater responsibility.
Our How you'll learn at University blog post breaks down and explains all of the different types of classes and how you'll be supported, it's a really handy guide to refer back to.
Induction and what it is
Induction and what it isInduction activities (also known as orientation) takes place at the beginning of term, usually in your first week. During your induction you'll receive lots of helpful and important information regarding your studies and the support that is available to you while you are a student with us. Each School creates an induction most appropriate to their students, our Welcome and Inductions page can direct you to your School induction information pages.
You'll receive an induction timetable from your School, which will give you the dates and times for the sessions you need to attend. There will also be online elements to your induction. You need to ensure that you complete both the in-person and the online elements of your induction so that you have the best possible start to your studies.
