START UP Elevator Pitch Competition Night - Tuesday 24 March

Can you pitch a business that doesn’t exist for a cash prize?

Join us for a Pitch Evening where your challenge is to pitch a totally random, totally fictional business idea.

You’ll have one minute to deliver your elevator pitch, scored by the audience and a judging panel from the Start Up team. A cash prize is up for grabs. You don't have to be working on a business, just have the confidence to persuade the room and you could walk away successful. No experience or business idea needed!

Academic Skills Support

The Academic Skills Team will be supporting students throughout the Spring Break via the Your Skills programme

One to one appointments are available during this time and the team will be across campus at drop-in sessions.

Libby App

Libby is a free resource you can access through the University which has all kinds of e-books, audiobooks and magazines available, from popular fiction to wellness and lifestyle.

Access TV and Film

Have you met BOB (Box of Broadcasts)? It's an archive of over two million radio and television broadcasts from over 75 free-to-air channels, including all BBC channels, ITV and Channel 4, plus some international channels. New programmes are added to BoB as they are broadcast each day.

King's Gate START UP space

If you’re a student or recent graduate working on a business or social enterprise, come make this space your own! Spaces are limited, so get in touch with the START UP team to chat about working from here.

IT Service Support Hubs

The walk-up IT Service Hub at the Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC) will close from 16:30 Thursday 2 April 2026 and will re-open at 8:30 on Tuesday 7 April for the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Sports Centre

The Sports Centre will be open as below throughout the Spring Break:

  • Monday - Friday: 07:00 - 22:00
  • Weekends: 09:00 - 17:00

The facility will be closed on Friday 3 April and Monday 6 April 2026.

Language Resource Centre

The Language Resource Centre will remain open throughout the Spring Break:

  • Monday - Friday, 09:00 to 17:00

The facility will be closed on Friday 3 April and Monday 6 April 2026.

The LRC has plenty of online resources you can access at any time, including films and series from around the world

ResLife

Wellbeing Support

There will be no evening clinic during the Spring Break so the hours of the Wellbeing Service is Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00.

Spectrum Life - Mental Health support

As stated above, Spectrum offers Mental Health support which is 24/7 -  they understand that mental health distress is not a 9-5 Monday to Friday issue.

Their team of mental health professionals can provide you with immediate help and support in managing whatever issues you are facing, as well as referral into further support where appropriate.

They offer access to their mental health team via telephone, live chat, SMS & WhatsApp channels.
