One-to-one Support

Access expert advice and information through our one-to-one appointments.

Access tailored support and guidance

You can book an in-person or online appointment or submit an online query.

To be eligible to book an appointment you need to:

  • be a current student at Newcastle University
  • have graduated from Newcastle University within the last 3 years

Careers consultants

Careers consultants can offer guidance to help you make choices about your education and career plans. We can help you:

  • explore your options when you're unsure what to do after your degree
  • help you if you're thinking of changing or leaving your course
  • plan your next steps
  • highlight your skills and identify any gaps
  • improve your applications and postgraduate personal statements

We can also offer interview coaching sessions where you can practice interview questions.

Information advisers

Information advisers can offer advice and help you to access the careers information you need. We can help you:

  • look for graduate and part-time jobs in the UK and overseas
  • look for placements, internships, work experience and voluntary opportunities
  • research different occupations and employers
  • prepare for interviews and assessment centres
  • make useful contacts

We can also offer feedback and advice on CVs and covering letters, LinkedIn profiles and personal statements for teacher training.

CV advisers

CV advisers can offer feedback and advice on CVs, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles.

You can come to us for advice before starting your first CV or cover letter, or we can review and feedback on your draft version.

Business start-up team

Our START UP team team can help you explore working for yourself at any stage. Whether you want to explore an idea or have already launched a business or freelance career, you can access the following help: 

•    support with idea generation 
•    provide tailored advice 
•    help you develop your skills 
•    introduce you to like-minded peers 
•    refer you to further support from mentors 
•    award grant funding up to £3,000 

Book an appointment

You can book an online or in-person appointment through MyCareer. Appointments are available with:

  • careers consultants
  • CV advisers
  • information advisers
  • START UP advisers

To book an appointment:

1. go to Book > Appointments

2. click on the Appointment Finder tool to choose the right appointment type for you

3. click on View appointments to see available appointment times and book

Information for your appointment

We only have time to cover one topic during your appointment. If you have multiple queries, for example, you would like CV feedback and advice on how to find graduate jobs, please book two separate appointments.

You can book appointments up to 7 days in advance. If you are unable to attend your appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible.

In-person appointments will be at the Careers Service in King's Gate, Level 1.

Online student appointments are on Microsoft Teams. You won’t need a link to access the meeting – we’ll video call you directly at your appointment time, so please be ready and ensure that your device’s camera and microphone are working. We recommend that you download the Teams app beforehand.

Online graduate appointments will be via Zoom – you will receive a meeting invitation for this in advance.

Before booking a CV appointment you need to first complete the CV and Covering letter Pathway on MyCareer, including uploading your CV or covering letter to our automatic online checker, CareerSet.

Send an online query

You can submit a query through MyCareer and one of the team will respond within 5 working days.

Go to the Queries/CV icon and then click on Submit new query/CV.

Can’t find what you are looking for or can’t get an appointment?

Contact us on 0191 208 7748 or submit a query on MyCareer and we will get back to you within 5 working days.

Additional requirements

Please get in touch via MyCareer or at careers@ncl.ac.uk if you have any specific requirements, eg an alternative format, communication support, or other adjustment, to access our support.

Prospective students

If you're a prospective student and have a query related to a course, please contact the University.

Confidentiality statement

We offer a confidential service to all clients. This means that we don’t share information about service users outside of the Careers Service. The only time that we would do this, is if we thought that you were at risk of harm. We may then have a duty to share details with an outside agency.
