About Northern Accelerator

The Company Creation team is part of the wider Business Development and Enterprise team within Newcastle University. Their role is to support academics to move their research into scalable, well-funded, ambitious companies (including Social Enterprises).

They have an excellent track-record of producing spin-out innovative, high-tech commercial companies from University research. This contributes significantly to the regional economy.

The team has extensive, hands-on experience of creating and successfully managing businesses at the forefront of innovation. It’s headed up by Rick McCordall, Head of Company Creation and Lizzie Withington, Company Creation Manager. If you would like to discuss any business opportunities with the team please contact Jill Moffat.

The team are founding members of the Northern Accelerator programme: four North East universities working together to make a step change in delivering research to the marketplace and to develop entrepreneurship among academics.

Stage

If you have research, IP and/or an idea that you’re interested in commercialising or exploring the opportunity for potentially creating a company please get in touch. You can contact the Company Creation team directly via Jill Moffat or you can speak to one of the FMS Business Development Managers.

Research and ideas must be well founded and established with consideration of protection of relevant IP. If you think your research is ready for commercialisation, you need to speak with your School’s Business Development Manager who will be able to support you.
