Courses in Marine Science and Technology in general and Marine Transport with Management MSc are very popular with students from Greece. We are one of the few universities in the UK to offer this Masters course, as a result Newcastle is a popular choice for Greek students.

Newcastle is friendly, multicultural and safe. The city centre is just a few minutes' walk from the campus, and we're also close to the beach and countryside.

At Newcastle, you will develop connections with fellow students from around the world.

The International Society brings together students of different nationalities. This can help you settle in to the local environment and promotes cultural diversity on our campus.

The Hellenic Society organises social events for Greek and Cypriot students and students who are interested in Hellenic culture and history.

Entry Requirements


Find out the qualifications from Greece that we accept for entry onto undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Newcastle.

English language requirements

If your first language isn't English you will generally need an IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent, to study at Newcastle University.

Our English language requirements section also lists the alternative English language qualifications we accept. 

If you don't meet our English language requirements, extra support is available. You could also complete a pre-sessional course to help improve your English before you start your degree. We provide these at our INTO Newcastle, if you will be studying in Newcastle.

You will also receive language support throughout the course of your studies.

Scholarships and discounts

If you're wanting to come and study at Newcastle, we have a number of schemes that applicants from the EU can take advantage of:

Vice Chancellors Scholarships for EU students*

The University is pleased to announce a generous scholarships package for its EU students for September 2021 entry. Awards of between 40 to 70% of the advertised international tuition fees will be automatically awarded to any EU student who applies for an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course (including MRes programmes).

Vice Chancellors Excellence Scholarships for EU students*

The University is pleased to offer 35 partial Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships to assist high achieving EU students to study an undergraduate degree or postgraduate Master’s degree, commencing September 2021. Each scholarship is worth £6,000 towards the cost of the advertised international tuition fees and will be awarded in addition to the above automatic scholarship. There are 5 undergraduate and 30 postgraduate awards. The awards cover every year of the course.

Students must apply by 27th May to be considered for one of these scholarships.

Vice Chancellors Business Excellence Scholarships for EU students*

The University is pleased to offer two Vice-Chancellor’s Business Excellence Scholarships to assist 2 high achieving EU students to study an undergraduate degree or postgraduate Master’s degree in Newcastle University Business School, commencing September 2021. The awards cover full international tuition fees for every year of the course. One is for an undergraduate student and one is for a postgraduate (taught programme) student.
