New Student Guarantee

We guarantee accommodation to all first-year, undergraduate and postgraduate students where certain eligibility criteria is met.

New student guarantee

Coming to university is an exciting time but moving to an unfamiliar city can be a daunting experience. We aim to take some of the stress out of the process by offering our New Student Guarantee.

We can guarantee you accommodation so long as:

  • you are about to start your first year of an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course
  • you have applied as a single student
  • you have made us your 'firm' choice university and have applied for a full year's accommodation by 30 June 2024
  • if you are an undergraduate student, you hold an unconditional firm offer by 31 August 2024
  • if you are a postgraduate taught student, you hold an unconditional firm offer by 30 June 2024

The guarantee is an offer of a room in University-owned or managed partnership accommodation. We strive to match you with your chosen accommodation, but this isn't always possible due to the popularity of some residences. We appreciate your understanding that our guarantee is of a room, not one you have chosen.

Clearing and insurance guarantee

We understand that things don’t always go to plan, and you may not have intended to come to Newcastle University. We want to help make the process less stressful, and that’s why we have our Clearing and Insurance Guarantee.

We guarantee accommodation to all clearing and insurance students so long as:

  • you are about to start your first year of an undergraduate course
  • you are joining us in accommodation for the full academic year
  • you have had your place confirmed by Newcastle University following your UCAS application
  • you have applied for accommodation by 19 August
Exclusions

Not all applicants are covered by our guarantee. You are not guaranteed accommodation if:

  • you are a part-year student - see information for part year students
  • you do not intend to live in the accommodation for the full academic year
  • you require couple or family accommodation
  • you suspended your studies after the first term in a previous year
  • you did not meet the deadlines set out in the guarantee
