Catherine McKinnell

Catherine McKinnell has been the Member of Parliament representing Newcastle upon Tyne North since 2010, and currently serves as the elected Chair of Parliament’s Petitions Committee. Prior to her election she worked as a solicitor at Dickinson Dees (now Womble Bond Dickinson) specialising in Employment Law.

Catherine currently serves as Chair of the All-Party Group on the Armed Forces (RAF), Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups Against Antisemitism, on the East Coast Main Line, Friends of CAFOD and heads the Parliamentary Labour Party’s backbench group on Foreign Affairs.

She has previously held several Shadow Ministerial roles including Shadow Attorney General, Shadow Exchequer Secretary and Shadow Children’s Minister.

Catherine’s key political interests include local and regional economic development, education, gender equality, child poverty, public transport, foreign affairs, defence, and standards in public life.
