Mapping Time Release

A creative time-audit that visually maps opportunities for effective time release across the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Mapping Time Release is a project that offers a new cross-disciplinary exercise enabling staff (across career-stage and contract type) to be meaningfully consulted on the question of time. To do this, we will lead a three-part ‘Creative Time Audit’, a qualitative 'ground-up' consultation that aims to provide visually map opportunities for effective time release across the Humanities and Social Sciences. The map will be used to provide suggestions to the Research Culture Coordination Group (RCCG) as to how meaningful time release might be achieved.

These time-audit workshops will be led by an expert in visual-mapping methodology (Professor Peter Hopkins) and co-facilitated with Early Career Researcher Thembi Luckett with expertise in community-mapping. It is crucial to better understand those moments across our academic year where colleagues feel particular exhaustion, and time-pollution and this will be a fun way to discover some of these findings. As noted in the Research Culture Strategy, fun can be part of research!

Each workshop will be documented by a local visual-minutes artist, ensuring we capture the qualitative findings.
