Project Title:  The Post-Industrial Pitch: Football-Led City Branding on Social Media in Dalian and Newcastle

Supervisors: Dr Steve Walls, Dr Clifton Evers, Dr Kellie Daniels

Project Description

This research builds on my academic and professional experiences. During my MA at Newcastle University, I analysed tourism PR strategies on Douyin and their impact on urban brand reputation. My background in broadcasting and as a trainee reporter for Dalian Daily has strengthened my skills in storytelling, interviewing, and engaging diverse audiences. Leading volunteer teams at the Dalian Museum and managing international guest reception at the World Economic Forum enhanced my understanding of cultural presentation and cross-cultural interaction. These experiences inform my research, considering both content production and audience interpretation, while my participation in academic events demonstrates my commitment to scholarly engagement.

Research Interests:

I am interested in how social media shapes digital culture and facilitates cross-cultural communication. Building on my MA research analysing tourism PR strategies on Douyin, I focus on how short-video content conveys meaning and engages audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds. My experience in broadcasting, reporting, and managing cultural events has strengthened my skills in storytelling, content creation, and audience interaction.

I enjoy exploring digital culture, cinema, and literature, as well as vocal music and expressive reading. Travelling and engaging with diverse cultures inspires my research in cross-cultural communication. I also enjoy sports, including football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, and golf, which help me maintain balance and teamwork skills.
