Dr Matthew Forshaw

Lecturer in Data Science

Background

Matthew Forshaw is a Lecturer in Data Science, working for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Cloud Computing for Big Data at Newcastle University. He previously received his PhD Computing Science, M.Sc. Internet Technologies and Enterprise Computing and B.Sc. (Hons) Computing Science (Networked Systems and Internet Technologies), also from Newcastle University. His research interests include operating policies for energy efficiency in large scale computing environments, Internet of Things and Learning Analytics. Matthew is also currently Membership Chair of the IEEE STC on Sustainable Computing. 

Matthew is PI of two HEFCE Catalyst Fund grants:

  • "Improving Student Engagement and Retention through 'Human in the Loop' Learning Analytics", ~£103k
  • "Addressing the national data analytics skills shortage: co-creation of an industry-led Data Science programme", ~£251k. (Jan'18 - Jan'19) (HEFCE Press Release)

Matthew is currently a visiting researcher at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich).
