Dr. MD Jakir Hossain is a Lecturer in Cybersecurity at Newcastle University, UK. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in 2021 and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCiE) from Staffordshire University in 2022. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Hossain has held academic positions including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Programme Leader across institutions in the UK, China, and Bangladesh. Prior to joining Newcastle University in 2026, he served as Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BSc Cybersecurity and BSc Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligence programmes at the University of Chester. He also worked as Associate Professor (Cybersecurity Lead) in the collaborative programme between Oxford Brookes University and Chengdu University of Technology, China. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Hossain has contributed to curriculum development, programme leadership, module design, student supervision, and quality assurance. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in cybersecurity, computer science, networking, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, and is committed to delivering industry-relevant education that prepares students for careers in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.Dr. Hossain has received several prestigious awards and scholarships, including the Chinese Government Scholarship for his doctoral studies and the UK Global Talent Visa in recognition of his academic achievements. He is an active IEEE member, affiliated with several IEEE technical societies, serves as a reviewer for leading international journals and conferences including IEEE IoT, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, etc. and served as a Proctor for IEEE Xtreme.
My research focuses on designing secure, intelligent, and privacy-preserving solutions for next-generation digital systems. My primary areas of expertise include applied cryptography, secure authentication protocols, artificial intelligence for cybersecurity, cyber threat detection, Internet of Things (IoT) security, cloud security, wireless body area networks (WBANs), and quantum cryptography. A major focus of my work is the design and formal security analysis of lightweight authentication and key agreement protocols for resource-constrained and distributed environments. I have developed security solutions for a wide range of application domains, including IoT, cloud computing, telecare medicine information systems, wireless sensor networks, smart cities, smart grids, and healthcare systems. My work aims to address emerging cybersecurity challenges while ensuring efficiency, scalability, and user privacy. I am also interested in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for cyber threat detection, intrusion detection, malware analysis, and network security. My research explores how AI-driven approaches can enhance the resilience of modern cyber-physical systems and critical digital infrastructures against sophisticated cyberattacks.
My publications have appeared in leading international journals published by IEEE, Elsevier, and Springer, where I have contributed as both first author and corresponding author. I actively collaborate with researchers from academia and industry on interdisciplinary cybersecurity projects and have served as a Co-Chief Investigator (Co-CI) on multiple research initiatives. I also contribute to the wider research community as a reviewer for leading IEEE journals and international conferences.I welcome collaboration with researchers, industry partners, and postgraduate students interested in cybersecurity, applied cryptography, artificial intelligence for security, secure communication protocols, cloud and IoT security, and emerging technologies for building trustworthy digital systems.
