Rural Entrepreneurs – Chances and Problems of the Development of a New Entrepreneurship in Rural Areas

Funded by a Marie Curie Training Grant, this project involved a comparative exploration of rural entrepreneurship in northern England and the former East Germany, through the analysis of statistical information and a number of case study examples.

The project explored the potential implications of the differing institutional (social/political) contexts in northern England and the former East Germany in influencing patterns of rural entrepreneurship and drew conclusions as to the challenges faced by development agencies in using business networks as instruments of rural development.
