Monitoring and Review
Review of partnerships
- All education partnerships are approved for, normally, a five-year period. The legal agreement will specify the exact arrangements for each partnership.
- A year before the end date of the agreement the Registry and Education Services Partnerships team will contact the academic lead for the partnership outline the process for renewal of the partnership.
- An earlier renewal process can be initiated if required by the partner or the University. This can take place for example, if significant changes at the partner have taken place or significant quality and standards concerns have been identified.
- A Partnership and Programme Approval Committee (PPAC) will be convened to the review the case for renewal.
- The PPAC will make a decision on whether to support renewal of the arrangement based on a review of the following criteria:
- The partnership continues to meet the strategic needs of the University, Faculty and School.
- The partnership has and continues to meet the University’s expectations for quality and standards.
- The partner retains appropriate academic, financial and legal status.
- The business case supports the continuation of the partnership.
- To support the PPAC consideration Academic Units will be asked to provide a written case covering the following areas:
- The proposed strategic objectives for the next 5-year phase of the partnership outlining how this supports the University, Faculty and School objectives. Supplemented with an evaluation of the intended longer-term future of the partnership outlining the associated risks and benefits.
- An evaluation of the wider benefit and impact of the partnership arrangement (e.g. through increased reputation, sharing of good practice, links to other subject areas).
- A critical evaluation of any areas of the partnership which have not worked well and how these have been addressed or are continuing to be addressed.
- Confirmation from the partner on their support for the continuation of the arrangement.
- The written case will be supplemented by the following evidence to support the renewal case:
- Student recruitment figures for past 5 years.
- Student outcomes (continuation, completion and progression) for the previous 5 years.
- Number of complaints, appeals and disciplinary cases for the last 5 years, with outcomes (upheld/not) and a summary of any common themes.
- Summary of student feedback and any common issues arising and how these have been addressed.
- Any relevant in-country approvals/reviews and the outcomes/recommendations associated.
- The Registry and Education Services Education Partnership Team will undertake a re-review of the partner due diligence to address criteria 'The partner retains appropriate academic, financial and legal status'.
- The review of the business case will take place at the Faculty level. The PPAC will receive confirmation that the business case has been reviewed and whether there is continued support for the partnership.
- The PPAC will make one of the following recommendations:
- The education partnership meets the criteria for approval and should be renewed.
- Further information is required and updated documentation should be submitted to a future PPAC.
- The education partnership does not meet the criteria and should not be renewed.
- The PPAC will report its recommendation to the University Education Committee (UEC) for approval.
- Following UEC approval a new legal agreement will be negotiated with the partner via the University’s Legal Services team.
