Undergraduate entry requirementsUndergraduate entry requirements
We typically require:
- a minimum of 60-65% in a Pass or Ordinary Bachelors Degree
- or a minimum of 80% in a Polytechnic Diploma
- or a minimum of 70% in a Bachelors Degree in Arts, Commerce, Science or Education with Honours
This will be assessed on a case by case basis.
ABB at A level is typically the minimum required for entry to an Undergraduate course. Please check course specific entry requirements as they do vary across courses.

Typically we recognise:
- GPA 3.2/4.0 or 75% in a four year Bachelor degree in any subject as comparable to a 2.1 and GPA 2.8/4.0 or 70% as comparable to 2.2
- GPA 3.2/4.0 or 75% in a Bachelor degree in Engineering (B.Eng) or B.Tech (Hons) as comparable to a 2.1 and GPA 2.8/4.0 or 70% as comparable to 2.2
- GPA 3.0/4.0 or 70-75% in a two year Bachelor degree with a two year Master degree as comparable to 2.1 and GPA 2.8/4.0 or 65-70% as comparable to 2.2
- GPA 3.0/4.0 or 70-75% in a 3 year Bachelor degree with a one year Master degree as comparable to 2.1 and GPA 2.8/4.0 or 65-70% as comparable to 2.2
If you do not meet these requirements you may be eligible to apply for entry to a course at INTO Newcastle. These courses are based on our campus and help you to prepare for study with us.
English language requirements
If your first language isn't English you will generally need an IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent, to study at Newcastle.
Our English language requirements section also lists the alternative English language qualifications we accept. This varies depending on which country you are from.
