Celebrating 75 years of Landscape
Celebrating 75 Years of Landscape at Newcastle University, 1949-2024!
In the academic year 2024-25 we celebrate 75 years of Landscape in Newcastle, first at Kings College - then part of the University of Durham - and since 1963 as Newcastle University. In 1949 Professor Brian Hackett laid plans for what became the first post-war postgraduate diploma in Landscape Design in the UK. It only seems a blink of an eye since 1999 when we celebrated the golden Jubilee - 50 years - of Landscape Architecture at Newcastle!
Much has happened since then, not least the launch of a two-year MA in Landscape Architecture - accredited with the Landscape Institute, a one-year MSc in Advanced Landscape Planning and Management, and a highly active research group - The Landscape Collaboratory. Once again, we have much to celebrate, to review and reflect upon.
We celebrated this landmark anniversary with a series of events that took place across May and June 2025. Our one remaining event will take place in July, details below:
Landscape 75 Lecture Series - Denis Delbaere and Keitaro Ito
Wednesday 2 July, 6pm at the Farrell Centre
Join us on Wednesday 2 July for engaging presentations by Professor Denis Delbaere, National School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Lille, France and Professor Keitaro ITO, Kyushu Institute of Technology who will both update us on their landscape architecture research.
We also hosted a special Landscape webinar on Tuesday 13 May with colleagues from across the Landscape department at Newcastle University.
