Research Led Teaching

Engage with the latest knowledge from our leading researchers.

Newcastle University is a member of the UK's Russell Group of leading research-intensive universities, and we engage in research-informed teaching.

The rate of change in our professions, and in society, continues to accelerate. The research informed teaching and skills we deliver are vital to staying ahead in changing professional environments.

Our teachers are researchers and scholars, so students at all levels learn directly from our group of world-leading experts. All our students engage with the latest knowledge in, and beyond, our fields. Many of our staff also practice, and aim to translate research into practice in connection with education.

Our aim is not just to prepare our students for their first day in work, but to lead the professions and vocations they'll retire from. We pride ourselves on the creativity, initiative, practicality, and thoughtfulness of our graduates.

Many of our leading academics have written key textbooks in their fields.

Live Projects

Most of our programmes offer opportunities for students to work on real projects with communities and clients, supported by academic staff.

For example, the 'Testing Ground' programme has produced a sequence of student designed and constructed buildings at Kielder Forest Park. 'Canny Planners' has engaged students with young people in schools to explore current problems in urban planning.

Projects like these which examine contemporary issues and help our students build valuable experience through research-informed teaching.
