About Tariq's Career

Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
The education from Newcastle opened a new chapter in my professional life as after graduation three years ago, I joined the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund as a HR generalist and had the chance to be part of the transformation of the fund. Currently, I am the Head of Performance & Rewards within the Human Capital Department.

Is the above what you planned to do before starting university?
I went into university wanting to advance my career in HR and I was lucky to not just work in the field but get further in my career than what I had in mind.

About Tariq's Newcastle Experience

What was your favourite thing about your course?
The student experience taught me a lot from getting involved in different activities and discussions during lectures to practicing some skills that are required in the real business life.

Were you involved in any other extra curriculum activities or societies during your time here?
Elected as our course student representative and chair of the HRM and IHRM student staff committee

About Tariq's Future

How do you see future technologies and new ways of working (Future of work) affecting your sector?
I see that this would shift the focus of our work from transactional based to more towards relational and long-term thinking. As we move towards this world, most time-consuming routine work would be automated.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I am excited now and in five years’ time, I would like to be seen as someone with deep expertise in HR and be in a position that allows me to deliver a wider strategic impact on the business and support others in their early career.
