Our scholarships for the academic year starting September 2024 are outlined below.

Funding support is available for postgraduate programmes.

UK, EU and international applicants will be eligible for postgraduate funding.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this partial-fee scholarship you must meet the following criteria (Business Excellence Scholarship Regulations 2024 Entry):

  • hold an offer of admission for 2024 entry for an eligible programme (see terms and conditions for eligible programmes)
  • you must achieve or hold a UK 2:1 Honours Degree (or its international equivalent)
  • hold an English language qualification of IELTS 7.0 or its equivalent with no subskill below 6.0, if your first language is not English
  • Students can be domiciled in any country but priority will be placed upon students from underrepresented groups within out PGT student cohort

How to apply

Eligible candidates will automatically be considered for the Business Excellence Scholarship as part of their academic course application.  Applicants will be considered based on their academic level, English language score and quality of personal statement.

Executive Education Scholarships

Diversity in Leadership Scholarship (Strategic Leadership MSc)

We have scholarships available to candidates who can demonstrate their passion for sustainability, inclusivity and social justice. Our scholarships will support learners with their study costs.

Overview

We are looking to develop the next generation of diverse leaders. Leaders play an especially important role today as we turn our attention to economic and social recovery and consider how best to tackle longstanding inequalities. We are committed to supporting individuals who are not afraid to challenge the status quo and ask searching questions about what kind of society and economy we want to create.   

We aim to attract students from all sectors whose organisations or role directly addresses or contributes to challenging one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The diversity of our cohort is central to our philosophy of a challenging and developmental learning space for all our students and to reflect the social and economic landscape.

We are particularly keen to attract candidates from under-represented groups within leadership roles such as Ethnically Minoritised individuals. The Scholarships will reward candidates who have the potential to empower, motivate and provide direction in their particular context.  

Successful candidates will demonstrate how their work directly impacts on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in particular (although not limited to) inclusivity and social justice.

  • Complete the online programme application for Strategic Leadership MSc by clicking on the “Apply Online” button on the programme page
  • Complete the scholarship application form including a personal statement of no more than 1,000 words based on the application criteria. Your personal statement should address
    • How responsible leadership plays an important role for the future of society and the economy
    • How your work directly impacts on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in particular (although not limited to) inclusivity and social justice.

Applications will be reviewed by the Executive Education Review Panel.  

Please note, scholarship applications can only be considered once an application has been made to study the Strategic Leadership MSc. We recommend eligible applicants apply for the programme and the scholarship at the same time.

Application Criteria

To be eligible for this partial-fee scholarship you must be able to articulate the following criteria during your application and interview:

1. Application criteria:
  • Demonstrated how responsible leadership plays an important role for the future of society and the economy
  • How your work directly impacts on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in particular (although not limited to) inclusivity and social justice
  • How you believe you represent an under-represented group in your organisation, sector, profession or society
  • Work in a SME or third sector organisations including charities, social enterprises and voluntary organisations
  • Work in an organisation or have a role that directly supports a more sustainable future for your region and beyond
  • Holds the equivalent of a UK 2:1 honours degree
2. Interview criteria to demonstrate:
  • Academic ability to learn at Masters level           
  • Substantive leadership/managerial experience 
  • Motivation and commitment to complete the programme
  • Potential to empower, motivate and provide direction in their context

MBA scholarships

Our MBA scholarships are available to outstanding students entering our full-time MBA programme in September 2024. A range of full and partial tuition fees scholarships are available.

All candidates are assessed at the point of interview for the Developing Talent and Leadership Scholarship. Our other MBA scholarships are application-based and only offer holders are eligible.

MBA Next Generation Impact Scholarship

£15,500 payable towards the cost of tuition fees

Overview

Our new Next Generation Impact Scholarship has been designed to support candidates from the UK to pursue skills in leadership development and embrace their ambitious career aspirations. 

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate high levels of impact through their educational, professional and personal achievements to date, and will be able to articulate how entry on to the full time MBA programme will help to accelerate their goals

  • Have permanent residency in the UK
  • Hold a first class bachelor's degree, or a upper second class result
  • Have less than three years' work experience with a minimum of 18 months experience
  • Complete the scholarship application form below including an essay of no more than 1,500 words in response to the question listed.

MBA Developing Talent and Leadership Scholarship

Value of award

Awards of up to £13,000, payable towards the cost of tuition fees.

We will transform and support MBA candidates who can shape the future of an organisation. Our Developing Talent and Leadership Scholarship will reward MBA candidates who are results orientated, customer focused, and can demonstrate leadership qualities and values.

To be eligible for this partial-fee scholarship you must meet the following criteria (MBA Partial Fee Scholarship Regulations - 2024 entry):

  • can demonstrate (through application and at interview) substantive managerial experience and good leadership potential for the future
  • hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) for admission in 2024 to the Full-time MBA programme
  • have substantive managerial experience of 3 years or more
  • hold the equivalent of a UK 2:1 honours degree (applicants who do not meet this requirement but can demonstrate relevant work experience above the minimum plus significant career progression may also be considered)
  • perform well at interview across all competency areas
  • hold an English language qualification of IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent with no subskill below 6.0 (if your first language is not English).

MBA Sustainable Leadership Scholarship

Postgraduate research funding

NINE DTP Studentship 2024

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Northern Ireland and North East Doctoral Training Partnership (NINE DTP) Studentship 2024

NINE DTP runs a combined annual studentship competition to recruit and select postgraduate researchers of the very highest calibre to study at seven UK Universities, including Newcastle University Business School.

This is an open competition, which is centred on the quality of candidates and their proposed research.

Candidates must be applying to study a PhD in September 2024 to be eligible for this studentship.

As well as the main studentship competition, this year there are two new ring-fenced awards as part of the ‘Action for Equality’ Agenda for the DTP, designed to award scholarships to under-represented groups.

Important dates

22 January 2024: Application Deadline

All candidate applications must be submitted to Departments in advance of this date to be considered for ESRC DTP funding.

26 March 2024: Studentship Committee

The Studentship Committee will meet in late March; candidates will be informed of the outcome of the competition shortly after.

We offer a number of funded studentships throughout the year. Funding is available to UK, EU and international students. The type of funding available, the size of the award, the eligibility criteria and the application process varies.

Funding at School level

The Arts and Humanities Research Council Northern Bridge Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership

Newcastle University is a member of the Northern Bridge Consortium which offers 67 fully funded studentships per year to outstanding postgraduate researchers across the full range of Arts and Humanities subjects. Peter and Norah Lomas PhD Scholarship in Economics

This scholarship was established in 2010 by economics alumnus, Peter Lomas (MA Economics, 1949) who donated £1.6 million to fund PhD scholarships in Economics.
