About Gideon's career

Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
I have worked at the technology consultancy, Accenture, particularly focused on innovation strategy with C-suites and, recently, FinTechs. While predominantly Financial Services (Insurance), I have also worked within Products (Jewellery) and Resources (Energy) clients. I am now the Digital Strategy trustee for a British Charity, Best Beginnings and head up the Re:Think initiative (similar to Ted Talks) in Accenture.

About Gideon's Newcastle experience

What was your favourite thing about your course?
The Innovation module taught by Neil Alderman! The ability to create your own company in the Business Enterprise module in second year was also illuminating.

Did you complete a placement year/study abroad/summer internship during your time at Newcastle?
I completed a 12 month placement, unusually between first and second year, which secured me a guaranteed job afterwards and a great set of experience with which to build a portfolio.

What extra-curricular activities or societies were you involved with during your time here?
I participated and elected positions within the Jewish Students on campus (JSOC) society, and the Newcastle University Judo Club. I attended some of the Business School events and AISEC. I also won a research scholarship with the Business School.

About the future

How do you see future technologies or new ways of working (future of work) affecting your sector?
Sustained disruption, particularly when we start seeing the knowledge industry being affected by change. Innovation, or R&D, will always continue and leads to new opportunities. The move towards individual reputation, customer centric models and the power of the ecosystem (rather than organisation) will hopefully create an unusual behavioural shift towards increased responsibility, stewardship and self-fulfilment.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
Either in a start-up, back in education or as part of a venture capitalist group.
