About Justina's career

Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
At the moment, I am working as a Business Planning Analyst in HP where I am supporting various processes in business all over the world. I am responsible for reporting on the important KPIs as well as contributing towards constant improvement in the company, customer and partner engagement. Additionally, I have gained experience in Finance within another international IT corporation and Financial Services experience within the Banking Industry.

Is the above what you planned to do before starting university?
I always wanted to get the experience in a corporate world surrounded by industry experts and this plan has definitely came true.

About Justina's Newcastle experience

What was your favourite thing about your course?
It was definitely the people that I met during my time at Newcastle University, starting from inspirational Professors, to my course mates. I also appreciated the thoroughly prepared materials which provided crucial knowledge on topics but also enhanced my ability of thinking.

Did you complete a placement year/study abroad/summer internship during your time at Newcastle?
I spent one year as an Erasmus student in the University of Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. It was a great opportunity for me to experience a different culture, learn the language and lay the ground for the decision to eventually move to Barcelona and work here after the graduation.

What extra-curricular activities or societies were you involved with during your time here?
I worked as a Student Communication Team Member for the University's Career Service, where I helped to organise events and engage with students about their career options. I also got valuable experience volunteering in Oxfam's Finance Office in Newcastle. In addition, I was a member of the Economics society.

About the future

How do you see future technologies and new ways of working (future of work) affecting your sector?
Working in a fast paced IT company, I see how technology is important in enabling many tasks to be done more precisely and quickly. Technology now allows the cumulation of data and gives crucial insights, allows for more precise forecasting, helps to mitigate risks and increases better personalised customer experience.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
I see myself continuing to develop as a professional in a business and finance environment. At the moment, I am working towards a Master's degree in Financial Markets and a CFA accreditation which will further enhance my knowledge in the industry specifics. Having reached it in five years' time, hopefully I will be able to take on senior and management positions.
