About Jordan's career

Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
I have completed my ACA qualification whilst working at Barclays. My first role was as a Treasury Finance Analyst, which involved accounting for the Treasury function. I then moved to Investor Relations, which is a team that liaises with investors to discuss Barclays’ investment case, works with sellside analysts in different investment banks who model Barclays’ growth trajectory and produces financial results material. I am due to start a new role in Board Support which works with the Chief Financial Officer of Barclays UK to deliver the strategy for that business.

Is the above what you planned to do before starting university?
Yes, the above is what I planned to do and I assisted this during my time at university by securing an internship in my second year.

About Jordan's Newcastle experience

What was your favourite thing about your course?
The staff were great and the topics were very interesting.

Did you do a placement year/study abroad/summer internship during your time at Newcastle?
Yes, I did an internship at Barclays in Costs. Although I knew I didn't want to do Costs, it helped get a foot in the door as I was asked to join the graduate programme after university.

About the future

How do you see future technologies and new ways of working (future of work) affecting your sector?
It will have a positive effect on the working environment; more dynamic working and easier global collaboration. It should make customers and clients have a better service. However, it will increase costs as the pace to keep up with innovation is rapid, and you have to spend to defend against cyber attacks.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
I would like to be a Finance Director looking after my own product, like cards or mortgages within Barclays UK.
