Our Arts, Business and Creativity MA provides an entrepreneurial education for creative graduates who aspire to a variety of careers in a creative industry.
The course was created in conjunction with the School of Arts and Cultures and key stakeholders from the creative industries.
It examines the theoretical aspects of creativity and the creative industries within their social, cultural, economic, political and increasingly, international contexts. It provides you with a setting to start-up a business and to engage on real projects with regional stakeholders.

The course is for creative graduates who want to turn their artistic and creative talents to a viable career or business start-up. It will also suit those involved in developing and growing enterprises within the sector.
It has been designed specifically for individuals with some involvement in or experience of creative industries.

- develop and apply advanced management tools and techniques to support profitability, sustainability and growth within the context of commercially creative work

- establish and manage a real-life business
Since entrepreneurship education needs to be experiential, there is a significant practical element to the course, including:
- starting up an enterprise
- acting as a consultant in a creative business
- working with practitioners across the sector

Key decision makers within business and government recognise the vital importance of the creative industries and the creative business sector in regeneration and the economic growth of regions and whole nations. Graduates in this field are very much in demand.

The course has been developed in conjunction with industry practitioners and is taught by a team of academics with strong links to regional organisations and extensive professional backgrounds in the business world.
The course is modular in structure, comprising 180 credits. All modules are compulsory.

A number of the course team members are involved in a major UK Research Council-funded research project - Creative Fuse North East - involving five of the region's universities. The project is focused on understanding and supporting the region's creative, digital and IT companies.

A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent. Your degree should be in a subject that provides a basis for involvement in the creative industries. We will consider degrees in non-creative subjects if you can show relevant work or voluntary experience.
Examples of creative subjects include:
- fine arts
- music or music technology
- creative writing
- computer graphics
Your application should show your experience within the creative industries. Your experience could be in a professional, voluntary or an unpaid capacity.
We will also consider your application on an individual basis if you have a 2:2 honours degrees or non-standard qualifications and/or relevant professional experience.

- 6 week Pre-sessional entry: IELTS 6.0 overall (with 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in all other sub-skills)
- 10 week Pre-sessional entry: IELTS 6.0 overall (with 1 sub-skill at a minimum of 5.0 and 3 sub-skills at a minimum of 5.5, including writing)

How to Apply
The course starts in September. There is no application closing date for this course.
We suggest international students apply at least two months before the course starts. This is so that you have enough time to make the necessary arrangements.
If you live outside the UK/EU you must:
- pay a deposit of £1,500
- or submit an official letter of sponsorship
The deposit is payable after you receive an offer to study at Newcastle University. The deposit is non-refundable, but is deducted from your tuition fees when you register.
After reading around my subjects and going to various talks and workshops offered by the Business School, I discovered the type of career would best suit me; Marketing Cosultancy. This is an area that I have been able to get experience in throughout the year, through both the Createathon and a Creative Enterprise module.
Living so close to Uni has encouraged me to spend most of the time in the Business School, especially in The Hub where I could chat with friends, have lunch or discuss about our group projects with other classmates. Also, the computer clusters or studying quiet spaces available are great places where I can focus on my work.
I fell in love with the Newcastle and its culture as it is very vibrant and has lots of interesting and creative activities happening throughout the year. The cultural scene in the North East intrigued me and I wanted to explore further as to what the arts and culture sector in the North East had to offer.
The Arts, Business and Creativity MA is a specialist programme with a small and friendly student cohort. My student group only consisted of 15 students but we shared modules with other courses such as the Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship programme which meant plenty of opportunities for networking. This meant I had a lot of classes where I met and socialised with more people with different backgrounds, ages and interests. As both programmes are very international, I made new friends from all over the globe.
The Arts, Business and Creativity MA provided me with a unique opportunity to try out different things and learn through new experiences, such as thinking like an entrepreneur to promote creative ideas, or acting as a consultant to help the development of an organisation. In addition to learning key academic concepts and knowledge, I gained practical work during the programme which consolidated my understanding of the creative industry.
I chose Newcastle University as the Business School is triple accredited (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA) and has a strong reputation around the world. As my future plans involve doing marketing for start-up businesses, then later launching my very own business, the ABC programme seemed like the most suitable programme for me. The course is also multicultural and I knew this would prepare me on a social and cultural level - if I chose to work internationally later.
