Social and Cultural Engagement


We want to make sure you settle in to your new university-life and enjoy the beautiful city of Newcastle and surrounding regions.

At the Business School we welcome students from 94 different nationalities so there is no better time for you to make new friends and meet people from all over the world.

We've put together a series of events and activities designed to help you create memories, explore the area and above all have fun.

Student Societies

From debating to DJing, finance or baking, our Students’ Union has a wide range of societies you can join.

Several societies may relate to your programme of study, giving you the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded students with a common academic interest.

Business School Board of Students

The Board of Students is an overarching business society for Marketing, Economics, Management, Accounting and Finance.

The society is vital to the planning and organisation of major events such as our annual ball, social nights and alumni events.

It's an excellent opportunity to network and build your profile with global businesses.

Students from all degree programmes and stages are welcome to join the board.

Accounting Society

The Accounting Society is involved in a number of activities including:

  • conducting mixers with companies and working professionals
  • hosting days out with fellow members of the course
  • evening socials
  • providing opportunities to represent your course as part of Intra Mural sports.

Economics Society

The Economics Society offers you the opportunity for academic learning, socialising and career development.

The society also runs a number of challenges and competitions throughout the year and offer a great platform for you to meet those on similar courses. You'll also be able to take part in termly socials, a trip to London and a weekend abroad.

Entrepreneur Society

Newcastle Entrepreneurs organise a variety of events to inspire entrepreneurship amongst the student community in Newcastle. This includes:

  • workshops and training events
  • networking events
  • conferences
  • competitions

The society also provides you with a platform of support from like-minded students, allowing you to socialise and explore your business ideas.

Finance Society

The Newcastle University Finance Society is a career driven society for those interested in entering the financial sector.

The society hold several events throughout the year including talks from business and financial institutions and as well as an annual society trip to London.

Management Society

The Management Society offers excellent opportunities to meet other students with an interest in the field of management.

The Society hosts a variety of events throughout the year including social nights and networking events, giving you the chance to meet with potential future employers.

Marketing Society

The Marketing Society is open to all students who have an interest in the field of marketing. Throughout the year, the society:

  • facilitates workshops to help develop employability skills
  • organises companies to host talks on internships, placements and graduate jobs
  • organises monthly socials
  • facilitates Intra Mural sports teams
  • help members gain invaluable work experience
