30th year of accreditation inspires future global leaders

Throughout 2018, the Business School celebrated 30 years of Association of MBAs (AMBA) accreditation, the global standard for MBA and management education.

AMBA currently recognises the world’s top two per cent of business schools and represents the highest standard of achievement in management education.

To mark this milestone, the Business School released an alumni campaign, showcasing the achievements and incredible talent of their MBA graduates. The campaign launched in July with a Celebration Weekend, which was brought to a close with a Gala Dinner at the BALTIC with alumni, students, staff, and corporate contacts in attendance.

The celebrations continued throughout the year with a photographic campaign that featured one inspirational alumnus from each year from the past 30 years, showcasing their journey since graduation. Each alumnus was photographed at an iconic North East location.

Dr Lesley Pender, MBA Director says “The MBA represents a transition in students' professional and personal lives and the combination of analytical and practical skills with personal and professional growth makes the Newcastle MBA a distinctive experience.

“This year, we have awarded two students with full fee scholarships in recognition of 30 years of our programme's accreditation by the Association of MBAs and the winner was selected on the basis of exacting criteria.”

Successful applicants were Patricia Lopez, from Argentina and John Gonzalez Garcia from Colombia. Both are currently studying for their MBA degree at Newcastle University Business School. Dr Pender continues “We are delighted that Patricia and John have been awarded our AMBA full fee scholarship and would like to congratulate them on this achievement”.

Scholarship recipient Patricia Lopez states that "winning the AMBA Scholarship is a huge personal achievement. This award allows me to realize my dream of pursuing an MBA in England, and Newcastle University Business School offers an excellent programme, which will definitely prepare me for the successful future that I am looking for."

When asked about his MBA journey thus far, John responded; “I always knew I wanted to study my MBA in the UK, not only for its location, but for its high quality of education. I wanted to study a programme that combined knowledge with hard and soft skill development and one that would complement my existing experience of the finance sector – Newcastle offered the perfect combination within a triple-accredited Business School.

“When I applied I realised that the MBA was celebrating 30 years of AMBA and with this came an opportunity to apply for a full-fee scholarship which was a competitive process. This award and recognition has been incredibly valuable and highlights the School’s commitment to leadership development.  I am very grateful for this opportunity”.

In September 2018, the Business School was awarded a further five-year AMBA accreditation for its MBA programme, the maximum period that can be awarded. For more information and to find out about the scholarships available this year, visit the MBA webpages.
