Six months in: a reflection from Professor Sharon Mavin, Business School Director

Professor Sharon Mavin joined the Business School in September 2017. After almost six months in the role, our new Director reflects on the relationship between alumni and the Business School and how we are planning to take this forward.

Hello to all alumni,

I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of our graduates over the past six months, I am excited for what the future hold for our alumni community.

An alumna myself, having graduated from the MA Human Resource Management degree in 1993, I know the value that this community can have on your personal and professional development. The relationships I made while studying here are still very much thriving today, providing me with valuable networks and lasting friendships.

However, alumni communities go beyond much more than reunions and networks, they provide activities to our students that are instrumental to their development. From mentoring to speaking at our events and everything in between, we couldn’t provide these opportunities to our students without our alumni volunteers.

Going forward, our focus will be the Future of Work and Leading on Leadership, preparing our students for a future career they can shape after graduation.

We are committed to providing life-long value to our students and with our newly appointed Alumni Relations Manager for the Business School, Ginny Glithero, we are developing an alumni programme that works for all.

I am looking forward to working with you and hope to meet you at an alumni event in the future.

Best wishes,

Professor Sharon Mavin
