Expert on gender and business receives national honour

Professor Sharon Mavin, Director, Newcastle University Business School has received national recognition for the excellence of her work from the prestigious Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Mavin, who is a leading figure in the field of gender in management and leadership, was conferred the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Scientists earlier this month.

Fellowship is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the areas of thought leadership, practical application or policy development in the social sciences. It follows nomination by scholars and practitioners from academia and the public and private sectors and an extensive peer review process of the impact of an individual’s work for public benefit.

Professor Mavin said:

“I am honoured to have been nominated by my peers to receive this Fellowship as recognition of my work. I look forward to being a part of the Academy and continuing my work and contributing to its mission of promoting the social sciences more generally, as well as in my field.”

The Academy of Social Sciences is the national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. There are around 1300 individual Fellows, comprising the UK’s leading social scientists.
