Dr Fiona Robson

Reader in Leadership,Work & Organization


Dr. Fiona Robson is Director of Excellence in Learning and Teaching and a Reader in HRM at Newcastle University Business School.

Fiona is heavily involved with the University Forum for Human Resource Development (UFHRD) where she is Executive Secretary as well as Vice-Chair of the Research Activities Committee. Fiona is currently a member of the Chartered Association of Business Schools' (CABS) Working Group on Apprenticeships. 

Internationally, Fiona is a British Standards Institute (BSI) delegate for ISO260 which is the body responsible for developing standards in Human Resource Management. Fiona was elected as Convener for the new international standard on Employee Engagement.

Prior to joining Newcastle University Fiona was Deputy Director at Roehampton Business School where she was responsible for Collaborative Partnership provision across Europe, US and Singapore. Fiona led the re-design of the undergraduate and postgraduate suites of programmes and played a key role in achieving external accreditations.

From 2005-2015 Fiona held a number of roles at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University including Principal Lecturer, International Champion and Teaching Fellow. These roles enabled Fiona to develop her expertise around the support and engagement of international students.

Fiona is committed to working with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has been involved in the successful accreditation of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Fiona is currently an External Examiner for CIPD provision at Sheffield Hallam and University of Derby and in 2017 was recognised as an Academic Fellow. At a national level Fiona was recruited as National Series Editor for CIPD Case Studies Extra from 2010-2017 with responsibility for commissioning, editing and delivering high quality case studies for use by CIPD Centres across the world. Fiona has a long history of working with CIPD Publishing having previously been commissioned to write three Toolkits (Absence Management, Effective Inductions and Learning Needs Analysis) as well as a scripted DVD (Presentation Skills). Most recently she has been commissioned (with Dr. Valerie Anderson and Dr. Rita Fontinha) to write the new edition of CIPD's Research Methods in Human Resource Management textbook.
