Melis Besen

Teaching Fellow

Background

Melis is an ICAEW chartered accountant working as a teaching fellow in the Accounting and Finance department of Newcastle University Business School.

Prior to joining Newcastle University, Melis held financial management roles in a mix of both listed and family owned businesses in the region, including Bellway and General Electric. Melis brings this practical experience to her teaching.

Melis is working towards a PhD in Accounting, focusing on careers in the profession and whether it is possible to have both success and work-life balance.

Melis is a voluntary committee member for the Tyne and Wear ICAEW committee, which works to engage members in the region through events and training.

Teaching

Melis teaches on the following modules:

ACC1003 : Introduction to Accounting and Finance (for Business School Students)

NBS8006 : Accounting for Analysts

Research

Melis is currently working towards a PhD, looking at careers within the accountancy profession and whether it is possible to have success as well as a work-life balance.
