Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University Business School?

Coming from India, I wanted to study at a university that combined academic excellence with a welcoming environment, and Newcastle University Business School checked all the boxes. As part of the Russell Group, it had a solid reputation, and the feedback from alumni assured me I’d be making a great choice. The city itself was another deciding factor — it’s not overwhelming like a big metropolis, and the countryside vibe felt like a home away from home. Plus, as a student, the manageable cost of living was a big bonus. Choosing Newcastle wasn’t just about academics, it was about finding a place where I could truly thrive.

What has your career journey been like since you graduated?

It’s been a rollercoaster, a mix of exciting opportunities and real challenges. After graduating, I joined my current company and was quickly given responsibilities that pushed me out of my comfort zone. Managing independent projects at the age of 22 felt both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. There were moments of self-doubt, especially when things didn’t go as planned. But those experiences taught me resilience and the importance of seeking guidance when needed. As an international student, the transition to professional life wasn’t always smooth, but every challenge has shaped me into a more confident and capable version of myself.

How did the School prepare you for your current role?

The Business School gave me more than just a degree, it gave me the confidence to navigate uncertainty. Classes weren’t just theoretical, they focused on solving real-world problems, which now helps me handle the day-to-day complexities of my role. Working on group projects with classmates from diverse cultures mirrored what I experience in the workplace. Beyond academics, the supportive environment at Newcastle University Business School taught me that it’s okay to ask for help. That’s a lesson I carry with me in my career today.

Have you used any of the services at the School since you graduated?

Not yet, but I’ve stayed connected with the network and often look back on my time at Newcastle when I need inspiration. The friendships and bonds I built remain strong, and I know the alumni services and events are something I’ll turn to as my career progresses.

What is your biggest achievement in your career so far?

Managing independent projects so early in my career has been a highlight. It’s a big responsibility, especially when you know the outcome depends on your decisions. Every time I’ve delivered a successful project, I’ve felt an immense sense of pride, not just in the work itself, but in overcoming the challenges along the way. Those moments remind me that hard work and persistence pay off.

What are your future aspirations?

For now, I want to continue learning and taking on bigger responsibilities in my current role. Long-term, I aspire to lead impactful projects and mentor young professionals, especially those who are just starting out and might feel as unsure as I once did. My ultimate goal is to create meaningful change in my field while staying grounded and open to learning at every step.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

Be prepared for ups and downs, it’s all part of the journey. As international students, it’s easy to feel lost or overwhelmed, but trust yourself and don’t hesitate to ask for help. The support is there, you just have to reach out.

Build relationships, learn from your peers, and make the most of the resources available to you.

Also, remember to celebrate small wins, whether it’s mastering a challenging module or cooking your first proper meal! Your time at Newcastle isn’t just about academic success—it’s about growth in every sense.

What is your key takeaway from your time at the School?

My time at Newcastle University Business School taught me that resilience and hard work are always rewarded. One defining moment was my graduation day, where I stood on stage as the student orator with my parents watching. It was a moment of immense pride—not just because I was graduating, but because of everything that led to that point. The sleepless nights, moments of self-doubt, and hard work all came together in that moment.

More than just academic knowledge, the Business School taught me to persevere through challenges, stay adaptable, and believe in my potential. By the time I graduated, I was already working and living the life I had dreamed of when I first arrived in the UK. Newcastle gave me the confidence to dream big, the skills to achieve those dreams, and memories that I’ll carry with me forever.
