Carmen De La Cruz
2017 Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc graduate Carmen is Global Continuous Improvement Manager at The TJX Companies Inc in Massachusetts, USA.
Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
After I graduated I completed an internship at DB Schenker in New Jersey, USA. I received an offer from DB Schenker to move to a different State but I declined it. Then, I received and accpeted an offer as Process Manager for AIS, a manufacturing company located in Leominster, Massachusetts and worked with them for a year and a half but later decided to excel my career and started searching and applying to the supply chain network industry. As a result, I am currently working as an Operations Manager with Walmart E-commerce at Worcester, Massachusetts, USA.
Is the above what you planned to do before starting university?
Yes it is. I've always wanted to work in this area and I'm glad to be able to do so now. Both the e-commerce and supply chain fields are very challenging which gives you the opportunities in continuous learning and development to stay up to date.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
My favourite thing about the course was being able to interact with the other students and sharing our knowledge and different points of view based on our experiences, culture and countries.
Were you involved in any other extra curriculum activities or societies during your time here?
I was gladly part of both the De Paul society and the Catholic society.
How do you see future technologies and new ways of working (Future of Work) affecting your sector?
Right now, a lot of countries are closing physical stores due to profit loss and they are focusing their efforts on e-commerce. A rising trend is that e-commerce sales have been consistently eating up the worldwide retail market.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I see myself being a General Manager or Divisional Director of Operations in five years' time.
Learn as much as possible, benefit from the knowledge of Professors' and other students, we can learn from anybody. Enjoy your time at university and always stay focused on your short and long term goals.
