Nikolaos Benopoulos
2020 E-Business MSc graduate Nikolaos is Co-Founder and Managing Director at Polybox in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
After graduating, I worked as a researcher at NICO for three months, which helped me build technical and industry knowledge. I then moved into a digital paid marketer role at a Newcastle agency. My academic research, especially my Master's thesis on YouTube ad behaviour, gave me a solid foundation.
Is the above what you planned to do before starting university?
More or less. I knew I wanted to start my own company and have a marketing career.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
I loved the case studies and the depth of technical modules. They helped me bridge the tech and business worlds, which I now realise is incredibly valuable.
Were you involved in any extra-curricular activities during your time here?
I joined the Coca-Cola Asia Challenge with a team of five. We progressed through three rounds proposing smarter ways to collect and recycle Coca-Cola packaging in Asia. Sadly, the challenge was cut short due to COVID-19.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I want Polybox to grow and become a recognised digital company in the UK.
What one piece of advice would you give to somebody looking to start a career in your industry?
Take the classes seriously. Involve yourself in more field-related projects and build your network. Connections are everything.
Involve yourself in more projects related to your field and meet as many people as possible to expand your network.
