Surangnut Kongmunwattana
2017 Quantitative Finance and Risk Management MSc graduate Surangnut is Category Manager at TikTok Shop in Bangkok, Thailand.
Since graduating, what have you gone on to do?
After graduation, I joined Shopee Thailand (Thailand ecommerce platform) as Senior Brand Key Account Management. I had to take care of mobile brands and had four members in my team. I focused on increasing sales and strengthening relationship levels with the brands on the platform. After 10 months, I was promoted to be Lead of Key account management team with 12 team members. My responsibility was expanded to include both brands and non brand sellers. I also balance sales, visibility and aggressive competition among sellers, including price war and promotion.
Is the above what you planned to do before starting university?
Not exactly what I planned. I planned to become a product marketer that focuses on unique selling point instead of launching models.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
Professor’s experiences and the various case studies.
Were you involved in any other extra curriculum activities or societies during your time here?
I was a Course Representative and Student Ambassador. I was also a member of the Thai Society and attended some activites from other faculties.
How do you see future technologies and new ways of working (Future of Work) affecting your sector?
I think the business scene in Thailand changes rapidly and the Chinese market is getting bigger. They are one of the best developers of technologies and Thailand adopts from them a lot. Employees and companies need to adapt to match or move faster than the trends. I am currently working in one of the fast moving industries so I can experience firsthand how change affects the working environment. Those who don't develop themselves will strugge to understand how to reach both personal goals and the company's targets
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I want to expand my industrial knowledge. I have worked in the Mobile phone industry for six years and the position I see myself in the future is the head of department in either product or trade marketing. I want to balance the between offline and online sales in the market as Thailand is growing in the ecommerce market.
