Why Captured was created

Captured is part of Newcastle University Business School’s long-standing commitment to small businesses. It was originally funded by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) through their UK Futures Programme.

UKCES invited ‘anchor institutions’ to submit proposals exploring ways to:

  • support small firms develop their leadership and entrepreneurship capabilities and
  • help them to prosper and increase productivity in their local community

Anchor institutions are place-based organisations that contribute towards successful local economies and communities.

Our proposal, Captured, received support from:

  • Siemens
  • Sage
  • Sevcon (now part of Turntide) and
  • the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB)

Captured emerged from a prior collaboration and works on the premise that connecting small firms with managers from larger organisations delivers mutual business benefits.
