Beale Lecture 2026: "How we develop models: reflecting on 40 years (nearly) of modelling."
About the Beale Lecture 2026
The Beale Lecture is a flagship event of the Operational Research Society, bringing leading thinkers to Newcastle to reflect on major developments in operational research and modelling.
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Professor Stewart Robinson, Beale Medal winner and Dean of Newcastle University Business School.
Developing models sits at the heart of operational research and data science. While there are well-established techniques for improving systems and decision-making, far less attention is paid to how modellers actually decide what to model in the first place.
Drawing on nearly 40 years of experience in simulation modelling, Professor Robinson will explore how modellers approach problem situations, make modelling choices, and reflect on what truly matters in practice.
No prior knowledge of simulation or operational research is required.
