Location:St James' View, 8th Floor, Newcastle University Business School
Guest speakers

'Economics of Football' is an exciting, one-day event designed to introduce young people to the world of economics through the lens of football—a subject they know and love.

With no prior economics knowledge required, the event aims to break down barriers and show how economics is relevant, accessible, and relevant in everyday life.

The event has been organised in collaboration between the Bank of England, Discover Economics and the Financial Times Financial Literacy and Inclusion Campaign.

The day will include:

  • two interactive sessions exploring supply and demand and football’s economic impact, led by Newcastle Business School Student Ambassadors
  • a campus tour of Newcastle University Business School
  • a panel discussion featuring sports journalists, academics, and a current undergraduate student

Our panellists will be:

  • Gareth Harrison – Deputy Agent for the Northeast, Bank of England (Chair)
  • Josh Noble – Sports Editor, Financial Times
  • Dr Christina Philippou – Associate Professor in Accounting and Sport Finance, The University of Portsmouth
  • Dr Ian Gregory-Smith – Professor of Economics, Newcastle University Business School
  • Daniel Sundaram – Economics undergraduate student at UCL

Lunch will be provided.
