Northumberland Community Bank: ethical finance meets fresh marketing insight

Sector: Financial services | Location: North East England

A team of final year Marketing students, led by Ella Malcolm, worked with Northumberland Community Bank. Their aim was to strengthen its marketing strategy and expand its reach across the region. They delivered research-led recommendations focused on digital engagement, local outreach, and brand visibility.

The students applied theory to practice through branch visits, staff interviews, and competitor analysis. Their final strategy was praised for its clarity, relevance, and practical value.

“Most of what the students produced is more than deployable.” — Scott Wilson-Laing, NCB

Market Pavilion: student consultancy supports community regeneration

Sector: Culture and regeneration | Location: Blyth

Market Pavilion is a new venue in Blyth. It is being developed as part of a major town centre regeneration programme. Dan Ellis, founder of Jam Jar Cinema (who will be operating the Pavilion), engaged a team of undergraduate students. They explored ways that the Pavilion could connect with the local community. They focused on audience development, branding, and inclusive programming.

The students’ recommendations are now shaping the Pavilion’s strategic planning. They are supporting its goal to become a vibrant, welcoming community hub. The collaboration was praised for its professionalism, creativity, and practical value.

“The quality of work, the tone, the branding, the justification — it was all exactly what I needed. It felt like a substantial piece of consultancy.” — Dan Ellis, leader of Market Pavilion and Founder and MD of Jam Jar Cinema
