About this event

The Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre Research Symposium 2026 is a two-day, in-person event hosted at Newcastle University Business School.

The symposium brings together researchers to present and discuss the latest policy-relevant research on the economics of cultural and creative industries, with a focus on collaboration, evidence and emerging challenges.

Call for submissions

The call for submissions is now open.

Researchers are invited to submit:

  • extended abstracts for individual papers, and
  • proposals for special sessions

Submissions should address policy-relevant themes within the cultural and creative industries.

Submissions and proposal should be sent directly via email to research@pec.ac.uk

Individual papers

Authors interested in submitting a paper to the Symposium should send an extended abstract of around 500 words.

Special sessions

We also accept proposals for special sessions. These should:

  • indicate the planned topic/theme
  • include a short description of the session and the intended beneficiaries, with a list of 3 to 4 speakers per session

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • R&D and innovation in the creative industries
  • creative and cultural ecosystems
  • trade, investment and migration
  • skills development and labour markets
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the creative industries
  • social development, health and wellbeing
  • green transition and sustainability
  • interactions between the cultural sector and creative industries

Key dates

  • Special session proposals deadline: Friday 23 January 2026
  • Extended abstracts deadline (approx. 500 words): Monday 2 February 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: Monday 9 February 2026
  • Registration deadline: Friday 27 February 2026

Fees and funding

There is no registration fee.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. A limited number of bursaries are available for presenters, attendees and early-career researchers, each covering one night’s accommodation.
