Loneliness and social isolation have become increasingly prevalent among young adults in today's fast-paced, digitally mediated world. While digital technology is often seen as contributing to disconnection, it also offers powerful tools for fostering connection, especially for those facing barriers to traditional social engagement. The absence of meaningful social contact can lead to reduced prosocial behaviours and disengagement from community initiatives. Yet, digital tools—when designed and used effectively—can provide meaningful pathways to connection, care, and inclusion.

Forum structure

This forum brings together young people, researchers, mental health professionals, charitable organisations, and digital innovators to explore the nuanced relationship between technology and loneliness.

The forum will begin with expert presentations that share the latest research, frontline insights, and digital innovations aimed at understanding and addressing loneliness in young adulthood. In the afternoon, the participant-led activities will offer young adults a voice in identifying needs, preferences, and strategies for coping with loneliness through technology.

We’re excited to have you with us as we work collaboratively to spark conversation, share knowledge, and design a more connected future. Your insights will directly contribute to shaping a strategic action plan aimed at guiding future support initiatives and evaluating intervention effectiveness.
