Mehek - P&G Newcastle
Marketing and Management BSc student Mehek completed a work placement with P&G in Newcastle in 2024–25. She worked in the Supply Chain team, managing customer orders and developing digital tools while gaining leadership experience and contributing to team training.
What was your favourite thing about your placement?
My favourite thing about my placement was the prospect of being given real responsibilities. The company account I was given matched the account sizes of other permanent employees, and our daily tasks were the same.
Another thing which I loved throughout my placement was the help and support from permanent employees around me, especially my manager. My team was very supportive, patient, and always willing to help me with any questions I had. I was the only Supply Chain placement student in the Newcastle office, and everyone made me feel very welcomed.
What were the key skills you developed on placement?
Through my placement, I managed to greatly develop my digital proficiency. I learnt how to use software such as SAP and PEGA, and how to develop tools using Knime, PowerApps and Power BI. P&G had a lot of sessions to coach employees in digital skills, and I benefitted from attending these sessions. The placement taught me digital skills and enabled me to apply them to build tools for people in my role, and I wouldn't have been able to develop my skills otherwise.
Additionally, through my placement I have developed my leadership skills. I was tasked with onboarding temporary staff and another team based in Harrogate, teaching them the use of SAP and how it ties in with my roles and responsibilities. Through this, I developed and onboarding plan and training materials to lead the onboarding. I balanced these onboarding sessions alongside my day-to-day responsibilities and project work, which also taught me prioritisation.
What was the office culture like?
I really liked the office culture we had at Procter and Gamble. We had several events throughout the year: awards, a summer ball, a supply chain-focussed event, a games-based event, a Christmas event, and many more. This really helped me to connect with others within my team and has made my placement year very memorable overall.
