Combining fast and accurate testing, cutting-edge science and robust analysis and response, the Integrated Covid Hub North East aims to be a global leader in the fight against virus spread. Being part of the national Test and Trace service has placed our region at the forefront of managing the virus, saving lives by delivering innovative scientific discovery, information, and support to protect health. Its success is proof that we are at our best when working together in strong and inclusive partnerships, and diverse, engaged teams to deliver timely and responsive continuous improvement and innovation.

Dr Akhtar Husain was appointed Medical Director of the new Lighthouse Laboratory and has been instrumental in leading the North East regional lab response to Covid. He is responsible for the overall quality of all clinical services, to ensure they meet all quality standards and performance measures, with a view on continuous improvement and innovation.
